Description of Classes
Class Length varies. Some require extra material fees. Many will include hands-on, outside
experience, so dress accordingly. We use all natural and organic methods.
*Canning 101
How to safely can a variety of foods. Some classes will focus on one food type, taking you from picking to the finished product.
*Sewing Basics
Learn sewing terminology and how to handle basic sewing equipment, also the basic idea of sewing construction. Will make a seam sampler and a simple project to take home. This is the first step to learning how to quilt.

*Spinning Basics
Learn how to prepare wool for spinning; and how to spin yarn on a drop spindle and spinning wheel using different techniques.
*Weaving Basics
Learn the basics and terminology of hand weaving, including how to run a floor loom.
*Seed Starting
Learn how to start seeds in a greenhouse. Learn about starting mediums, environmental requirements, and tricks of the trade.
*Heirloom seed choices
How to choose the best heirloom seeds for your own garden, and the characteristics of the different varieties. Discussion of flavors, history, and modern uses.
*Greenhouse Construction and Design
We have three different types of greenhouses on the premises. Will discuss advantages/disadvantages of each. Kevin will discuss the construction of each one.
*Basic hand tools for the homestead, or how to hammer a nail.
Will discuss the tools required for general homestead carpentry and maintenance. Kevin is a carpenter by trade, and was raised on a farm. He has a wide range of experience and can easily teach the basics.
*Freezer Methods
Learn how to properly preserve food using the freezer. Will discuss the advantages/ disadvantages and what foods work best frozen.
*Gardening Methods
We will run a series of classes each focusing on a specific set of skills and type of garden. Some examples
are:
Mulching
Insect control
Seed Saving
Spring planting
Summer Gardens,
Fall Garden
Winter Greens.
*Basic Herbs
Tour of our herb garden, discussion of plants and their uses. Culinary and medicinal.
*Chickens
Raising Chicks
Laying Hens/Egg Production
Broiler Chickens
Butchering Chickens 101
*Beekeeping Basics
Learn from an expert how to begin raising bees. The where and why.
